STRAIGHT TALK: CHILLER COOLNANEE GOES TO WAR WITH BUCKY!!! IS THE BEEF STAGED OR NOT
For so long there has been conflicts and divisions amongst Liberian Artistes, but with diaspora artistes and local artistes…The Bar was raised so high that its negative effects rubbed on other Liberian Entertainment actors home and abroad, key players like DJs, Bloggers, OAPs, Agents, Managers, Sound Engineers, Video Directors etc.
Before the birth of Hipco or Trapco, there was no identity for Liberian sound, not in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and certainly not in the early parts of the new millennium. While GQ 88, Big Steve, Gibah Swaray would make headlines in African Music in the days of old, there was no one or no group that could actually say this is the identity of Liberian Music. The only reference they would tell you was it’s an Afro sounds, Traditional Liberian Songs, Liberian Highlife songs or Liberian Funky sounds.
Personally I was overexcited with the birth of HIPCO, our own sound, a unique identity. HIPCO did subdivide into branches, smaller branches of other sounds notably GBEMA SOUNDS which replaces traditional music. Everybody keyed into the ideas of HIPCO at the time but the only thing constant is CHANGE! And so another idea was born, our diaspora artistes came up with another name to add to our identity as TRAPCO. The Birth of TRAPCO had to fight off several rejections and criticisms especially from HIPCO soldiers, but at last a truce was called. You know a truce is a very tiny line drawn between you and your enemy. It can be bridged any second the moment you take your eyes off of it. Let me get to the actual story now, Chiller Coolnanee dropped a song title “Do My Thang” Produce by Rawlo. Listen to the first few bars of the 2nd Verse “I’m one of the reasons why Scientific rap in Hipco/ where Yur coming from talking abuh Trapco/ TV TV Rogue Catch Bucky Rogue/Hipco forever we never letting go. This was supposed to be the start of the beef. This was Chiller being mad at Bucky for raising the flag of TRAPCO and actually having success, in honesty, TRAPCO, HIPCO all sound alike vocally but the beats to the two Liberian made genres are different.
One has mostly Hip Hop beats while the other has mostly Trap beats so you can understand why it’s Trapco and Hipco. I’d like to think think Chiller Understands as well. Bucky Raw was preparing his CS1 album so publicity was needed. Tamba Hali had his eyes on his marketability so yes, more interest and followers would convince Mr. Hali that Bucky is not only talent but also a crowd puller. Back home Chiller Coolnanee started being controversial on shows, he would incite violence in the audience by performing more than he was scheduled to do. Bucky being a street rap battler he would’ve responded until his troubles with the American authorities that got him incarcerated for more than half a year and his subsequent deportation back to Liberia. Bucky quickly hit the studio and dropped an album titled “CS2″ that made history recently, meanwhile Chiller has been laying low. Until recently, Chiller has Striked again, Bucky Raw fired back with a catchy word GAY!!!. The stage is finally set for colossal battles of the Titans. So I ask, If this is not a publicity stunt, what are the motives for the beef? Or is Chiller Coolnanee mad by recent jab when he (Bucky) rap ” I turned Yur favorite rapper into bobo? Chiller has been quiet musically especially as Bucky is in town. Bucky Raw and Chiller does not have a bitter history or any bitter encounters since Bucky’s arrival. We can’t wait to hear from both camps on this new development.
