BILIKON ENT is one of the major record labels in Liberia presently. The year of 2016 and most parts of 2017 was so fruitful that you could’ve easily argued it was the best label in the country at the time. Everything was working out perfectly fine, the artists and boards were all happily working side by side until a major controversy rocked the label.
Ever since then, things have been sinking. It was really shocking because Bilikon star boy Kobazzie at the time was releasing hits upon hits, we all admired Layee Bility from near and far for his management style because that kept bringing the best out of Kobazzie and Young Zee especially, but like they say, all good things must come to an end, sadly Bilikon and Kobazzie romance ended abruptly and at the wrong time. Kobazzie had just recorded two major collaborations, #IN THE POOL# BY DJ WEEZY, KOBAZZIE AND CO.Z and #DRINKS ON ME# BY KOBAZZIE and CIC. These records did spread like wildfire in Liberia and beyond. There were no public tension and no drama before the sudden break up, all parties seem to be happy so in my perspective I’d say, no matter what might’ve gone wrong underground or behind closed doors should be handled and settled as family first and from a business standpoint secondly.
Layee got it wrong, his ego has hurt him and Bilikon Ent badly now that he and the label board has seen no one from the present crops of artists under it’s imprint can wear the big shoes that has been left behind by The Lorma boy Kobazzie. We’ve heard that no artist is bigger than his record label but I slightly beg to differ in some regards, in a label like Bilikon Ent, it was obvious then and now that Kobazzie was Bilikon Ent. Imagine what it will be like having MEMG without Christoph, LIBERTY ENT without Co.Z, CHILD SOLDIER ENT without Bucky Raw, NO BAD DAY RECORDS without Shine P… think about that.
Do you think these guys work Daily, Monthly, Yearly and not have some rifts and disagreements between them and the Labels? Pride and ego is man’s best undoing, Layee Bility decision to let his leading artist go without proper back up has cost the record label some major damages. Kennis Music made the same error with 2Face and today even their TV show Prime Time Africa don’t pull half the audience it used to do back then. Wizkid walked out of EME and today EME is no more a record label, they’re more like a PR company, Ericmany let RunTown walk away and that company is struggling, look at Kizz Daniel and GWorldwide, Gworldwide can’t get it right anymore even when they have Sugarboy leading the label. It is Kizz Daniel who’s is flourishing under his own label Flyboi Inc while GWorldwide has gone back to underground label.
Layee Bility did not do his homework properly. Now even a one hit song from Cjay could not save the label from going Under. #Boss chick# was a major success but it stopped there, even the branding of Cjay was not done professionally, instantly killing the young lady’s career and stardom even before it begun. From 2016-2017 it looked like Young Zee would be Hipco biggest export but sadly, the dude has gone back to being king of the underground rappers. He keeps toying with the same rhymes, same ideas, same patterns and deliveries in almost all of his songs, nothing new, nothing creative enough and Big Max who in all fairness is a decent artist don’t have that celebrity star appeal about him. He has been dropping some heavy stuff but they don’t get passed Few audiences which is a shame actually. When Killerbeat was signed as an artist and as an engineer, I envisioned greater things for him, he was already one of the best engineers in the land, he was dropping some mad street anthems as an artist too. It was easier to say he’ll be greater than he already was. He had major artists rushing to get the taste of his magical beats and now they’re making their way to other studios reducing Killerbeat relevance as an engineer and he has also been struggling to drop a single major hit in the industry ever since his signing. Somebody wake up Layee Bility from his slumber.
There is no secret about this and no time to waste, Layee Bility and his boards need to sit up and reexamine themselves ASAP before it is too late. A hint to a wise is sufficient.
