This is just me doing a review on the previous year 2018 and I am shocked that an artist such as the Sugar Daddy Teddy Ride dropped an album and didn’t win an award to commend his efforts. That same year his role model Burna Boy wowed the world with numerous hits from his album “Outside” to the point that every music lover vowed that 2019 would be an award winning year for the versatile Reggae/Dancehall act and New King of Afro beats. Yesterday the 5th of January was a victorious moment for Burna at the Soundcity MVP 2018 Awards, where he took home four awards as the biggest winner of the night. Burna Boy hasn’t always had it this great, in previous years he complained of being underrated by award organizers and the public, because he felt his works should be recognized. There was even a time, as far as 2015 or 2016 multiple hitmaker and friend Timaya had to advise Burna on social media after Burna Boy attacked a Popular Award body for snubbing him and not nominating him for any category, Timaya told him that he shouldn’t worry about awards, that what really matters most is him being consistent and not letting peoples negative reaction affect how much he believes in himself.
Now let’s come back to our own Teddy ride, is it that we should give the Sugar Daddy the same advise Timaya gave his Role model Burna Boy? Those words are good but it would be better if we pin point some other issues like him not having a management that understands him. Teddy’s issue is that he is not being underrated by the Liberian People or the Award organizers, the issue is that his label is not making the moves that they should make to allow him enjoy equal opportunities like his friends on the music scene: Deng, CIC, Stunna, and So on. Dropping an album or doing one or two concerts isn’t bad, but someone like Teddy deserves an International Collaboration, Strategic Promotions, and even a car, because a Superstar like Teddy Ride shouldn’t be commonly accessed by the public.
Teddy’s story is inspiring because he was a guy that never had the vocal prowess to sing, I heard he started as a rapper until he fell In love with Burna Boy, Worked so hard on himself, then before you know it Teddy became a superb artist that could slide through these genres without failing: Reggae/Dancehall and Afro beat. Teddy Ride has the prospect of being a Legend in the Liberian Entertainment Industry but he needs to be with a Management that doesn’t underrate him. I believe if Burna could finally have a breakthrough then Teddy Ride can also do the same.
