THROWBACK THURSDAY: BUCKY RAW BECAME AFRICAN LEGEND FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI ON “TEMPTATION”
Africa has a sound today because of a man that fought all his life for the common man with his music. He came from a very rich home, Fela’s parents sent him to the United Kingdom to study Medicine like his other brothers, but Fela turned the hands of destiny, studied music instead because he felt music is a universal language, if he could take advantage of that then he could voice out the pains of the poor and get the change the world needs. Times have changed, New genres of Music have been introduced to the African Continent, Afro-beat has extended to other topics apart from Freedom fighting, but that doesn’t mean the great Fela is dead even though his soul is far deep in the Celestial and his body has turned to dust. I was listening to a song on radio, the artist started by saying, “I can talk the way I feel, anyway I feel I can talk it. I wan be the brand ambassador for people them wey ain’t got no money. The wan them wey ain’t got no voice to talk I wan talk for them”. As at when the song was released the artist was based in the United states, though he is a Liberian but based on the fact that he had a good life overseas he had no business singing about Liberians suffering back home, but in the spirit of the Legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Bucky Raw took the mic to voice out the frustration of the masses on Trap-co so the government can make better decisions.
If we can remember very well, this was during the Election season where different tongues who were thirsty to drink out of the bottles of power came out begging, knocked on our doors to help them with our votes. ” The Children hungry to learn but y’all feed them temptation. The People hungry for job but y’all feed them temptation. The People Hungry for peace but y’all feed them temptation. she wan ma vote, He wan ma vote, which wan yor Occupation. ” Bucky Raw is back home, a new government is in power, we are still waiting for the change that was promised. Bucky few weeks back visited the school of the blind to show some love and make some donations, he did this out of his pure heart, not as a way to show off but a message was passed to those that have the higher hand to transform lives for good.”We hustle from hand to mouth da when they will give us spoon, da when they will tell the truth, da when they will feed the truth, da when they will sit down to hear the people point of view”.
Bucky Raw is a man of the people, even his MLMA People’s Choice award is a clear indication that he has the People’s heart beating in his chest, at the end of the song he said these touching words, “I did it for the Pekin wer sleeping on the beach with nothing covering him, e no even know where he will get food from. That lil girl wer taking care of her brother and her sister and still finding way to go to school, der people don’t got no maa but she’s still finding way….Na everyday temptation there, that Pekin wer sleeping on the beach with no family na him my president, that lil girl wer taking care of her brother and sister and still trying to make it to school na she my head of state.” Temptation by the Trapco King Bucky Raw is a song that should never be forgotten, this song is a wake up call for Real Change.
